Integrated Health Project

Encompassed Programs

The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launched the Integrated Health Project (IHP) to encompass the community based programs MNCH, LHWs, and Nutrition Program, in order to avoid duplication of services, and focus the three programs with the single aim to reduce Maternal and Infant mortalities, and improve Mother and Child health through its various initiatives taken under the aforementioned Programs.

The Programs were strengthened by developing linkages between the programs. The LHWs refer expecting mothers to health facilities and Skill Birth Attendants of MNCH program for safe delivery. The LHWs also screen malnourished children in the community and carry out referrals to the nearest Nutrition sites for treatment.

The Lady Health Workers program under integration serves as the linchpin of the department of health in its pursuit for prevention of diseases and strengthening its disease prevention programs. The lady health workers go out into the community to spread health education on a wide spectrum ranging from family planning to spreading awareness regarding prevention of HIV/AIDS.

The MNCH program was launched specifically to provide safe delivery to expecting mothers by providing Skill Birth Attendants to reduce Maternal and Infant Mortalities.

The Nutrition Program has established OTP Sites and Stabilization Centers throughout the settled Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to treat Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) Children.
