Integrated Health Project

Encompassed Programs

Integration of Health Services Delivery with Special Focus on MNCH, LHW, and Nutrition Program, commonly known as Integrated Health Program (IHP), is an initiative of the Department of Health, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to package the three vertical programs under one Umbrella. The purpose of the initiative is the spread awareness regarding Health Education at the doorstep of the rural and impoverished sectors of our society, Prevention of Common Ailments, Treatment of known causes of mortalities in Mothers & Children, thus promoting healthy practices that help in reducing maternal and child mortalities. Before integration, the department of health had various vertical programs that carried out such activities, however, each program was in the dark regarding the activities, progress, and initiatives of the other, and that resulted in duplication of services, as well as marginal productivity in terms of actual ground impact.

This resulted in the introduction of the Integrated Model, which combined the efforts of the above mentioned vertical programs, and focused their interventions under integration towards the betterment of society, improving lifestyle, and promoting healthy practices. The aim of this model is efficient utilization of resources, removal of duplication of services, and spreading health education through mass communication.

The Maternal Newborn & Child Health Program focuses on the health of mothers and children, through such interventions as Basic EmONC and Comprehensive EmONC services. In addition, the program has deployed Community Midwives providing services in the rural and far-flung areas of the region where access to health facilities is hard and time is of the essence.

The Lady Health Workers program under integration serves as the linchpin of the department of health in its pursuit for prevention of diseases and strengthening its disease prevention programs. The lady health workers go out into the community to spread health education on a wide spectrum ranging from family planning to spreading awareness regarding prevention of HIV/AIDS.

The Nutrition Program has established OTP Sites and Stabilization Centers throughout the settled Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to treat Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) Children.
